Deep Thoughts By NiNi HandyAs I was drifting off to sleep the other night, a thought struck me:
"Faith is non-negotiable."
WIKIPEDIA'S Definition of Faith:
The word faith has various uses; its central meaning is similar to "belief", "trust" or "confidence", but unlike these terms, "faith" tends to imply a transpersonal rather than interpersonal relationship – with God or a higher power. The object of faith can be a person (or even an inanimate object or state of affairs) or a proposition (or body of propositions, such as a religious credo). In each case, however, the faithful subject's faith is in an aspect of the object that cannot be logically proven or objectively known. Faith can also be defined as accepting as true something which one has been told by someone who is believed to be trustworthy. In its proper sense faith means trusting the word of another.
Believing in what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.
I guess what it all comes down to is that with faith, you have to shut out the world to believe what's inside. With love, you take what's inside and radiate it out. Faith requires blinders but love illuminates.
There's a reason why the term "faith based initiatives" sounds off an alarm in me, and there's a reason why when I drive past a church here in town that has a huge "Faith" shield on top of it, I shudder at the thought that thousands and thousands - probably millions by now - are being fed that sort of doctrine.
I just hope that in time, love will prevail.
