I'm NiNi, the lead vocalist of CORVO, and this is my personal blog [obviously, I'm an open book]!

I write a little bit about the band here, but mostly about personal and silly stuff. Although I don't blog about myself on the band's page, I don't mind if fans stumble upon this site and read it [if it's truly personal, it doesn't show up here].

The Flickr photo stream and the LastFM music feed drops many hints concerning the band's progress. Singing for CORVO and making art is my life's passion.

Me in (Another) 100 Things...
01 First grade teacher's name: Mrs. Jones

02 Last word you said: Okay, take your time and call me when you're back from lunch. We don't have a tight deadline today, so...let's just take it easy...*under my breath*...for once.

03 Last song you sang: "Monsters" by The Gathering (I *heart* Anneke)

04 Last person you hugged: G

05 Last thing you laughed at: Our VO guy and I talking like Beevis and Butthead.

06 Last time you said "I dont remember": I don't remember!

07 Last time you cried Watching TV: The other night as I watched the final episode of Sex and the City a second time. Yes, I'm a sap sometimes!

08 What color socks are you wearing: White (w/ Mary Jane shoes, of course...Gothic Loli me)!

09 What's under your bed: probably a lot of cat hair.

10 What time did you wake up today: 8AM (not necessarily by choice, but we're working on that)!

11 Current taste: Craving Fried Charlie's (crack-recipe) Chicken

12 Current hair: Black and almost shoulder-length...and of course, Bettie bangs. - I need a trim BAD!

13 Current annoyance: Tiny co-worker arch nemesis who's crossed me for the last time.

14 Current longing: To move to Europe

15 Current desktop background: A ginormous "Opeth" logo

16 Current worry: mmm...not really worried today.

20 Last CD that you listened to: A mix CD from Terrorizer Magazine

21 Favorite place to be: In the moment.

22 Least favorite place: Looking backward with regret or forward with worry

24 If you could play an instrument, what would it be: DRUMS - And I will someday. :o)

29 Favorite book: Wow....how does one choose?

30 Favorite season: Fall/Autumn

31 One person from your past you wish you could go back and talk to: My grandpa. We were so close, and he died when I was so young. In my adulthood, I think he'd still be as funny, wise and spry as he was in my youth.

32 Where do you want to go for university? my university is life!

33 What is your career going to be like: creative, personal and full

34 How many kids do you want: right now, not-a-one. If ever in the future, maybe an adopted Japanese baby who would be a Bohemian-artist-world-traveler with G and I.

36 Gotten in a fight with your dog/cat/bird/fish: hee hee! I got a little nip the other day from my crotchety old husky, but it was my fault.

53 If you could have any job you wanted what would it be: I'm living it.

54 Wish you were somewhere else? Right now, I wish I was about two-years ahead of today, living what I have planned for that. -But that's okay, we're on our way there.

68 Do you have a job: yes, and very grateful for it, even though I often wish I could leave it. (There is a practical "exit strategy," and it will be done in due time).

69 Do you like being around people: I'm an extroverted introvert. I SEEM really bubbly and outgoing on the surface, but I prefer intimacy and being with just a handful of really trustworthy friends. - So yeah...I like it! But I don't NEED to surround myself with people to be happy.

70 Best feeling in the world: feeling people enjoying my music or my work on stage - that energy...that connection...it's as good as amazing sex!

71 Are you for world peace: I just think it's a bit...unnatural. I don't think there ever CAN be world peace, even if we wanted it - and not just with humans. Nature isn't always at "peace." - So why would humans be? Nature is nature, and it is often cruel. My job is to evolve in a world where there can be no peace.

72 Are you a health freak: honestly, about 75% of the time, yes.

73 Do you have a "Type" of person you always go after: Enigmatic, slightly shy types...because usually, they're really not shy at all, and the most fun to talk to!

75 Are you lonely right now: no, not really...not today.

76 Ever afraid you'll never get married: no. - And for those of you out there not married, don't fear it! It's just a legal institution. If you're devoted to somebody in your heart, it's as good as marriage. Don't fear something as silly as that.

77 Do you want to get married: waiting for the right person was worth it. I'm so happy that I didn't get married just to avoid being alone.

78 Do you want kids? Didn't this get answered up above somewhere?

79 Cried: Almost :o(

81 Gotten Sick: Yes - I was out yesterday. Bad allergies, I don't think I'm catching a cold afterall.

82 Sang: Actually, no - sore throat.

83 Said I Love You: Yes

84 Wanted To Tell Someone You Loved them: If I want to tell them, I tell them. I stop what I'm doing and I find a way to tell them. - There is no "wanting" about it.

85 Met Someone: As in for the first time? - I mean...I met G for a little lunch earlier!

86 Moved On: Yes! I realized that my arch-nemesis co-worker is INSIGNIFICANT and resolved to stop stewing over what he did to me. - It's over. He is nothing to me now. Actually, no. I still want to punch his lights out. HARD.

97 Left someone a comment: Hee hee - what? *blinks innocently* Ota shi?

98 Sent someone more than 5 text messages: I don't even own a cell phone!

99 Gone to the movies: Even BETTER. Met up with my friends (the other night) to watch THEIR short film. SOOOOOOOOO much better than going to "the movies." :o)

100 Completed another survey: Hee hee! NOPE! I don't do these often...but when I do, I try to make it count.

Mean People Suck
Somebody has been a total dick to me, and I'm not taking it very well.

Especially when this somebody should be professional. Heaven forbid I hold somebody accountable, and just expect him to do his job. Oh, big-bad-NiNi, I'm sooooo unreasonable.

I haven't mentioned it yet, but I'm one of two top-contenders for a new position here, in a really innovative department...I hope I get it. I'm *this close* to doing something irrational in this current department, and I can't afford it. And this is after having a few days OFF. - It's pretty bad. Please offer me that job, S...oh please.

An Update on My Passion
Music. Music Music Music Music Music Music Music. My thoughts (and G's) are completely entrenched in our new life that is CORVO.

I just wanted to take an entry to jot down everything that made us feel really great about THE DEVILS.

THE DEVILS: Featured at GarageBand.com

We won "Reviewer's Picks" Awards in several categories at GarageBand.com: Best Female Vocals, Best Drums, Best Bass, Best Beat, Best Mood and Potential Soundtrack.

My favorite reviews:

Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts

The intro to this song is well crafted. The samples sound great and kept my listening then the riff builds up, which I totally wasn't expecting.

There's a nice drive to the song provided by the drums which is nicely accompanied by the keyboards. The vocals suit it well, and I like the slightly muffled effect...it goes well with the samples. The singer almost sounds like a slightly more metal aimee mann (from the magnolia soundtrack).

What I really like about the song is that whilst it has poppy hooks and a pretty rocking metally riff, it somehow manages to save itself from being cheesy pop metal and instead comes across as something far more clever and intricate.

Extra Credit: Drums, Mood.

The Hard and the Beautiful

This is a cool track! I get an epic futuristic fantasy kind of feel from this track. It would sound awesome in a action movie or video game! The whispers are cool and the distorted singing vocals are quite stunning...very beautiful and enchanting! Well done! And the double bass and guitars are top notch!! Keep up the good work! Peace n Luv!!

Extra Credit: Mood, Originality, Best Potential Movie Soundtrack.

So Scary, It's Beautiful

Great unique vocal approach, very reminiscent of Steve Albini's work with Big Black.

Love the kick in the pants at the 45 second mark, wasn't expecting that. Nice changeup on the vocals music. Incorporating the female vocal was a masterstroke, nice idea!

Great atmospherics, nice and disturbing, yet beautiful at the same time. nothing I love more than a beautiful piece of music that scares the heck out of me yet gives me goosebumps at the same time.

If Faith No More and Steve Albini formed a merger and recruited vocalists from the island of the sirens it would sound a lot like this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

I especially like the mixture of stylings evident in this song. All at once it is beautiful and ugly, operatic but heavy, dramatic but tasteful, indicative of outside influence but unique. You have my vote!

And the FUNNIEST review:

'80's Goth?

all these songs sound alike.so your a scary monster in a cage? [damn right] franenstien [you mean that reanimated corpse waitress that works at the diner down the street? -exactly]! with a guiter [yes, G is quite skilled at playing that little-known stringed instrument, the guiter] experesing your rage? [yes, we pride ourselves on the ability to experes] whatever. [exactly what i was thinking] the girls voice sounds like honey. [at least he can spell honey.]

I'm sure you're wondering why the "sudden" shift from filmmaking to music? Well...the shift isn't exactly sudden...G and I had been considering doing music together ever since we'd been dating. It just took awhile to invest in what was needed to play, record and produce original material. Lots of research, lots of soul-searching, too. We've got a LOOONG way to go, but I feel like we've already made great strides just within the past 9 months that we began this journey...

Once we've recorded our 3-song demo, and later on, an EP, we'll be turning back to filmmaking - to produce videos for all of our songs (a DVD). -Most feature filmmakers begin on short films and music videos. In our opinion, it's even better that the music videos we make will be done to our OWN music. We're working very hard, and playing every artistic angle that we possibly can...we've even talked about making a feature film by joining forces with all of the Indie bands that we've started to become friends with. - Could be really cool to have an excellent feature film that's done by a bunch of indie musicians - take "that," music-and-film-mega-corporate-robot-producers!

We won't start doing live gigs for awhile. We'll need to audition more band members at that time, and rehearsing for a live experience. You can probably IMAGINE the set ideas we have - the visuals, the lights...pretty wild stuff! You may have to put up with me blogging about our music a LOT. And just because I blog it doesn't mean you have to feel entitled to listening to CORVO and supporting us. You support ME as a friend - all of you - no matter how our musical tastes differ...and having a forum "away" from my CORVO sites helps me to explore my individual role in the band...so...thank you for listening! - Just hearing me blab about it is all the support I need. If you end up LIKING the music too, well....that's quite a cherry on top of the creative sundae.
